Tornado Tuesday
Good Morning. We hope you are all well. This week we are looking at extreme weather.
Well done to the boys who made a boat to escape the flood! 🙂
Today we will be looking at tornadoes !
You can click on the links below to watch the videos all about tornadoes.
Can you find out 5 facts about tornadoes ?
Science experiment – make a tornado in a jar !
What you need to make a tornado in a jar:
- Glass jar with a lid
- Water.
- Washing up liquid
- Vinegar.
- Blue Food Dye.
Once you have your supplies, you are ready to go!
- Fill your jar about 3/4 full with water and add in 3-5 drops of blue food dye (depending on the size of your jar and how dark you want the water to be).
- Add a teaspoon of washing up liquid and a teaspoon of vinegar to your blue water.
- Tighten your lid to ensure no spillages !
- Simply hold the jar by the lid and rotate it around in a circle in a smooth, steady motion with your wrist and watch the vortex form.

Question of the day: If you were a pudding what would you be ??
Kind regards,
Mrs Turk, Mrs Demetriou and Miss White

Don’t forget to watch newsround!
Do you have any of your own news from the weekend, that you would like to share?
Extreme Weathers
This week we are going to learning about extreme weathers.
Floods
Today we are learning about floods. We saw on Children’s Newsround all about the floods in England recently.
Watch the video below to learn what a flood is.
There are different types on floods.
Coastal floods
Coastal flooding usually happens during a tropical storm. It is caused by large storms and large waves moving towards the drier and usually low level land.
River floods
In higher or colder regions, melting snow or ice have the same affect and cause the river level to rise above its banks and flood.
Boat Activity
If your home got flooded you may need a boat to travel around.
Use things from around your house to make a boat for one of your cuddly toys or actin figures. Perhaps you could test your homemade boat in the bath. Did it float or sink? Please send us photos of your boats.
Write down a list of things you would take in your boat from your home.
Have a great Monday!
Kindest regards,
Mrs Awagu and Mrs May
Hello!
Hello, boys. We hope you are keeping well and are enjoying spending time at home with your family. We would love you to write a letter to us at school.
In the letter, you could tell us what you have learned and perhaps share something interesting with us. How are you keeping fit and healthy? Have you been creative and drawn or painted any pictures? Perhaps you could include a picture in your letter?
We are looking forward to seeing you when school reopens as we miss you!
Warmest wishes,
Mrs Turk, Mrs Awagu and Mrs Mayx
Have a lovely weekend, boys!
Good morning boys,
Please feel free to support your boys in doing any of the learning activities from the blog. Please do not feel as though they all need to be completed. They are just some fun ideas related to our current topics and learning!
We hope you are well and have been able to enjoy some of the lovely weather we have had this week – not quite as hot and humid as a Rainforest though!
Below is a photo of the Amazon Rainforest! It is the largest Rainforest in the world, look how beautiful and green it is. Sadly as you may remember there has been lots of forest fires here damaging the forest and destroying the habitats of the animals that we love.
It makes me so happy knowing that you all take such a great interest and care towards caring for the world around us and protecting the animals.
Remember to keep sending us photos of the work you have been doing at home or activities you have done, its lovely to see them all.
Well done for all your wonderful work about sloths. Here are some below.

Well done to Robin who used the word pause yesterday in his writing!:)
Today is Friday so that means spelling tests! If you can, get someone in your family to test you on ten words from the lists you are working on. Good Luck!
Rainforest birds
Today can you sit outside quietly or you look outside your window and write down how many birds you see. Note their coloring, size and behavior . What are they eating, are they making nests, are they in groups? Can you use the internet to find out what they are called.
Now watch this clip on the birds of paradise, showing the birds you can find in a rainforest. What do you notice about them? how are the different to ours? Which do you prefer?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kHi57VMaD_Y
Imagine you are in your rainforest and you have just seen a new species of bird , can you draw and label it. What are it’s distinct characteristics?

Good morning explorers :)
Good Morning boys,
We hope you are well. Did we have any rainforest explorers yesterday? What did you discover? Did any of you write your journals ? You can send us any photos you are happy for us to share on the blog.
Making a rainforest den
Today you could make an explorers rainforest den either inside or out.
-You could write a list of supplies you would need to survive for a week.
-What equipment would you take?
-What materials and clothing would you use to keep you safe and dry?
-Could you have lunch in your den?:)
-Keep a tally chart of the animals and insects you see. Are there any spiders that have crept into your den?
Tally chart example.
You could make a rainforest animal, bird or insect mask.
Please send us photos of you wearing your mask we would love to display them on the blog!!!:)
You can guess which animal each of your friends is! 🙂
Have you tried the Joe Wicks PE lesson yet? Link below. Mrs Awagu and I certainly have! 😊

Yesterdays word of the day was ‘pause’ what does it mean? Did you manage use it correctly when speaking or in your writing?
https://vocabularyninja.files.wordpress.com/2017/08/ks1-word-of-the-day-free.pdf
Drama
If you are able to get outside today, how about pretending you are an explorer in a previously undiscovered rainforest. What can you see and hear? Can you describe how you feel? Do you feel nervous or excited? Is your forest dense with trees? Are there lots of animals or birds in your rainforest? What would you write in your journal to tell others about it ? Can you draw it ?
English
After acting as an explorer write a journal entry about your experience through the jungle.
You can also research a jungle animal and write a fact file about it.
Our question of the day : If you could ask an animal a question, what would it be?
