Happy Christmas to all our boys in Year 1
Dear boys
Here are some suggestions of things you may like to do during the Christmas holiday:
Write a wintery poem about snow, frost, ice, magical creatures and starry skies
Do practical maths activities, for example, weigh ingredients, measure, tell the time, use money when you go shopping, count coins…..
Read a book (or ask Mummy or Daddy to read it to you) by Roald Dahl, Francesca Simon or Dr Seuss
Write about your holiday and draw a picture and bring your work into School.
Visit a museum or art gallery and learn about something that interests you.
Have fun!
High in the Heaven by Charles Causley
A beautiful Christmas poem to read and share with friends:
High in the Heaven
A gold star burns
Lighting our way
As the great world turns.
Silver the frost
It shines on the stem.
As we now journey
To Bethlehem.
White is the ice
At our feet as we tread.
Pointing a path
To the manger-bed.
Thank you for coming to watch us in our Christmas play performance!
Well done boys! You were fantastic, congratulations on all your hard work. We felt so proud of all of you, your singing and dancing was wonderful!

Gravity
Today in Science the boys looked at the force of gravity. They were given the task of trying to slow the fall of a table tennis ball. The boys designed parachutes out of different materials and tested their designs. They worked!
Victorian Day
Victorian Day was a great success and the boys enjoyed learning about life in a Victorian classroom, Victorian toys and seaside holidays. Ishan has said how much fun he had. Why not tell us your favourite moments from the day, explaining why?

Victorian Day
We had a wonderful day on Tuesday on our Victorian Day. The boys looked amazing in their costumes.
We had a fantastic visit from the Herfordshire museum, and enjoyed playing with toys from the past.
We visited Mr Fairclough in the senior school and learnt all about what schools were like in Victorian times.
A thought form Aarav….
One day in the future I am going to send send some of my toys to charity. I have a teddy named Eric. He turns into a man with a ball as a tummy. I love Eric. He is my best teddy bear. He is the best of all the teddy bear of all of the bears in the world. I am not going to send Eric to charity. he is the best.
Maths -weight
In Maths today we have been using balance scales to weigh different objects. We tried to make sensible estimates before we weighed and recorded our results.
Science -forces
This week in Science we have been thinking about moving air as a force. We made windmills, snake mobiles, we tried to move a table tennis ball and paper fish without touching them. It was a fun time of practical learning and discovery.
A Positive Message from Aarav!
When we were doing Junk modelling, I was so happy because we did that in Reception and it was so much fun. At Explore and learn time in Reception,we got to make our own toys and models. In year 1 I loved Maths in Maths we do maths like 1+9=10 and 1×2=2 and 5+9=14. I love my Teachers and my friends.
