Christmas Show Songs – Please keep learning the words at home

We have amended some of the songs the boys are singing for the Christmas show. Please be aware of the following changes:

The boys need to learn the following verses of the carols,

Once in Royal David’s city – verse 2 only

Little Donkey – all verses

O little town of Bethlehem – verse 1 and 2 only

Silent night – verse 1

The boys still need to learn all the other songs included on the sheets too. If you have misplaced your son’s song words, there are copies which were emailed to you and they are also on schoolbase.

Next week beginning Monday 24th November there will be no reading homework for the boys, instead they need to use their reading time to ensure they know the words of the songs they have been sent home.

Many thanks

Our Astronomy Planetarium Roadshow

Today we visited a Planetarium in our Sports Hall. It was amazing inside!

We learnt all about the stars, planets and space.

Here are some comments from 1B,

Max – I thought that it was good because we learnt about space. I liked going inside the dome. It made me feel happy.

Jesse – I liked it when the stars went round and the animals that were made out of stars.

Mihir – My favourite bit was when the Star Wars music came on.

Brando – I really like the shooting stars because they were bright.

Reuben – I liked learning about the Ancient Greeks. They thought that the stars looked like animals.

Oliver G – My favourite bit were the fireworks because they were my favourite colours.

Rocco – I liked it when we went into the tent because it made me feel like I was in space.

Kalum – I like seeing the planets move around the sun because I learnt the order of them.

Oliver S – I liked it when we went in because I liked the colours before the show.

Lewis – I liked learning all about the different stars.

Eddie – I liked it when we saw the rocket and astronaut.

Gabriel – I really liked it when it went really dark because then I couldn’t see anyone.

Veeran – I loved seeing the letters in the stars especially the ‘V’.

Ethan – I liked it when it when all the animals came up because I liked the tiger.

Lucas – I really liked listening to the music.

William – I liked it when we saw the stars at the beginning of the show.

Gabi – I loved it when the animal shapes went up because it was fun.

Lochy – I liked the man with the hook, the python and the dragon with the fire star shapes.

Design and Technology

The boys have taken home their own designs for a ‘moving toy’. Please encourage them to collect the recyclable materials needed for their designs. These are to be brought in for our lesson on Monday afternoon so the models can be made in school.

Thank you!Picture1

Toys, toys, toys

1B were very lucky this afternoon to have a visit from Eleanor from the Hertford Museum. She brought with her a wonderful selection of old fashioned toys.

Each group got to try all the toys on each of the 4 tables! They were mainly made from wood and tin metal. It was really exciting to explore and be ‘hands on’ with toys. Some of the toys were new to the boys and we all learnt something.

Here are some pictures for you to enjoy.

Science – Forces

Picture2

You can’t see them, but forces make the world go round. When you push a friend on a swing, you are using a force. Pushing moves something in the direction of the push. The harder the push, the further the item goes. Pulling something has a similar action. The harder you pull, the faster something moves along.

Click on the link below to carry out an interactive experiment and quiz exploring the difference between pushing and pulling.
